How to Scan a QR Code

In the fast paced, digital world that we live in, we are seeing QR codes being used more and more. Restaurants post their menus, event information is easily scanned linking to a website for more information, and general business and organization information can be found by scanning a QR code. Even homes for sale are using QR codes on their for sale signs.

What are QR Codes?

QR stands for “quick response.” QR Codes is a machine readable barcode that contains information.

How do I scan a QR code?

Depending on the mobile device that you use, (smartphones, tablets, etc.) will depend on how to scan a QR code. However, the basic concept of how to scan QR codes is the same regardless of your mobile device. Here are a few simple steps to scan QR codes:

  1. Open your camera on your mobile device. 
  2. Point your camera at the QR code and wait for a notification to appear on your screen. This notification will ask if you want to open the code in your phone internet browser.
  3. When the notification appears, press it and the QR code link will open in your phone browser.

There used to be a number of phone apps to download that would help you open QR codes, but those have since become obsolete now that your camera can scan and pick up a code.
