Remember when we were kids and we had hours to dream about anything? Do you remember what those dreams were? Maybe you dreamt about being a doctor or a lawyer. Maybe you dreamt about starting your own family or becoming the next world’s greatest chef. Maybe you wanted to start your own business or build your own home with your own two hands. Whatever the dream was, did you accomplish it?
Many people might say, “I was just a kid and didn’t know better.” Few can say, “Yes, I did accomplish becoming a doctor and my next dream is to open my own practice.” Do either of these responses feel like you? If the first, it’s okay. We all have been there. We grow up and forget to dream. If the second, how do you inspire others to reach their dreams?
“Get your head out of the clouds and back into reality.”
Let’s reverse that sentence.
“Get out of reality and put your head back into the clouds.”
Apple Computer Company was started in a garage. Why? Because some young men decided that they wanted to attempt to achieve a dream of theirs. They were young men. Men who, while young, probably enjoyed breaking things and putting them back together. As young men, they still dreamt. They kept their heads in the clouds. They might have not realized then that they were going to be where they are today. They just tried to achieve their dreams.
“But I’m not Steve Jobs. He’s special.” Do you think Steve Jobs was special before starting Apple? He was probably just like the rest of us. Dreaming at a young age for something better, but then, WHAM, life hits. Bills pile up and negative thoughts stop us from reaching our potential.
Is one of your dreams paying off your mortgage? What about paying off student debt? What about learning another language or completing the last few credits of your old college degree? Lose weight? Begin a healthy lifestyle? Reconnect with friends? Quit your job?
We all have dreams. Some are hidden away because reality doesn’t want us to dream. If we dig down, ask for help and support, we truly can accomplish each dream no matter the size.
